Our 6th graders invited our incoming 6th grade class from Woodridge and Cambridge to have a blast at Rollercade after our side by side concert! We are so excited to welcome you to our program! It's going to be a great year! Thanks Dylan Corso for these pictures! This week, both the Honor and Symphonic Orchestras competed at the Region 12 UIL Contest and Sightreading - and brought home the best score: One; Superior Rating! We are so proud of these students - they represented AHJS very well. Congratulations! Recordings will be emailed to Parents!* *Please note, these files are for personal use and cannot be shared electronically or posted on social media due to copyright law. Thank you. Hello!
With the help of the AHJS Girl's Service Club, we were able to raise $269 dollars at our last concert for Tornado Relief for the San Antonio Red Cross Chapter! The organization was so impressed and stopped by for a photo opportunity with our Concert Orchestra. Click HERE to view the Red Cross's Facebook post about it! Thank you parents from ALL our classes who were able to donate to the cause. Today, the students worked hard at a UIL clinic with my former teacher, Ms. Heinze! The students loved her bubbly personality and now ready to take on UIL! Thank you students and parents for coming out to school on a Saturday! Here are some pictures! Hi Parents, The Youth Orchestra of San Antonio is an amazing organization that our students can audition to be a part of. I highly recommend it! Students will have the opportunity to work with other students from different schools. Find out more about YOSA* here and what the requirements are by clicking here: www.yosa.org/programs/yosa-orchestras/auditioninformation/ *YOSA requires tuition, but scholarship opportunities are available. I went to a YOSA concert recently to support our current kiddos in YOSA and it was fantastic. Here are some pictures from the concert last month: Hello All! This past Friday, Dr. Rebecca Tast, String Education professor from Texas State University came to work with our students. She was able to work with every single class and give great feedback to all our students. We are so grateful for her! What an honor and amazing opportunity for this program. Hello Everyone, Mr. Galvan, our cello teacher, wanted to let everyone know that he still has some more spaces for students for private lessons on and off campus. He truly has been a hit with our students, and I highly would recommend him as a teacher. Like myself, he is a public school grown musician, so he definitely is a great example of the potential that everyone has! I decided to send him an interview so that you could get to know him a little bit. If you are interested in lessons on campus please email me at [email protected]! If you would like to consider a commitment off campus, please contact Mr. Galvan at [email protected] for more information. 1. When and how did you get started playing cello?
I started learning to play the cello at the age of 13. We had a new orchestra program at my middle school and I signed up for band and orchestra! 2. What inspired you to play cello? My father was my main influence on choosing the cello. He introduced me to classical music and I was immediately drawn to the strings, especially the cello! 3. What is your favorite thing about being a sectional coach and private teacher at AHJS? It's hard to choose one favorite thing. What stands out the most is the positive change that I see in a student. I've observed confidence levels soar and so many happy faces when a student begins to understand music and the cello. 4. Who is your favorite composer and why? Beethoven has always been at the forefront of my musical experience. So many themes of struggle, hope, love and triumph have stayed with me from his works and still inspire me to persevere. 5. Why do you believe music education is important? There is so much research out there that proves that learning to play music enhances your cognition, learning abilities and overall academic performance. But, I feel it is the most unique learning process in the world and changes how you view the world. It gives you everything needed to be successful. 6. Do you have space in your private studio on or off campus? Could you provide some details for students that may be interested? I do have limited space in both my private studio and on campus lessons. There is always room as long as your committed to your lessons. I always want a positive musical experience for all my students so I make it a requirement to have fun and enjoy the process. My job is to be your coach, role model, friend and cheerleader to help you make progress and to achieve your goals. Hello, One of our 6th grade students is a very talented writer and shared a poem with me that she created about her love for playing the cello! I thought it was cute enough to share with you! Enjoy! By: Anastazia Becvar Dark and brown like bark on a tree it plays wonderfully like birds flying free bow strokes slow and very legato sometimes shifting to staccato fingers move quickly from string to string making a jazzy rhythm that swings quiet at first, then to a high tremolo, but not so high as a piccolo feelings are expressed, when bow strokes increase while the notes of a cello always increase, but the notes of a cello, will NEVER EVER cease |
