Mrs. Katherine Murdock
Kathy Murdock comes to Alamo Heights as a returning retired music teacher, with over thirty years of teaching experience including her first five years as a high school concert/marching band director. Other experiences include private teaching, teaching elementary music, college flute and music appreciation courses, and years of teaching beginning strings. Her most recent orchestra position was in Victoria ISD, wherein she was the district Orchestra Facilitator/Director for over six years. She started the program with fourth graders and built the program through middle school and into high school the year before she returned to San Antonio.
Mrs. Murdock has a Bachelor’s of Music Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio; a Master’s of Music in Flute Performance from Midwestern State University, and a Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas in Denton. She is TEA certified in All-Level Music, Secondary Reading, and has a EC-12 Principal Certificate. Mrs. Murdock is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Orchestra Directors Association, the American String Teachers Association and the National Flute Association.
Ms. Lani Gil
Lani Gil is the Assistant Orchestra director at Alamo Heights Junior School. Gil was born and raised in San Antonio and is a graduate of Winston Churchill High School. She started playing violin at age 10 through the public school program. She is a graduate of Texas State University with a degree Bachelor of Music Education, and a Suzuki-certified teacher who runs a private studio in her home. She loves to travel, try new foods and dabbles in photography.
